Mobile phones have become a second skin of sorts for a majority of the masses today. Across all strata of society, they have emerged as the quintessential media to communicate and stay in touch with friends, family and business associates. However, with the passage of time, consumers have been demanding more than just flawless communication capabilities from their handsets, and this has given rise to the inception of multimedia phones. Basically, this genre encompasses handsets that offer an unmatched audio visual experience. The features range from a wide screen (preferably with a touch interface, or a QWERTY keypad, for better user friendliness), a video and MP3 player, option to connect with friends via social networking sites, and a host of other entertainment and recreation related features.

A leader among these is the Samsung Corby Pro, which is one of the highest-selling mobile handsets of the present day. The most striking feature of this phone is that it has a combination of the two most popular interfaces, i.e., a 7.11 cm touch screen, as well as a slider QWERTY keypad, which gives the user an option of operating the phone in whichever manner he sees fit. Even in terms of looks, the phone is a stunner, with a fantastic combination of black and red hues.

As far as communication in the form of text is concerned, the Corby Pro facilitates conversational messaging, which displays SMSs like instant messages, with all messages from one person being organized together, in order to create a linear conversation. Further, the Native Applications feature gives a one touch access to popular applications like Facebook, MySpace, and more. There is also a lot in store for users who want to chat, with the Multi IM feature that consolidates all instant messaging services in one application to allow the user to exchange text, pictures and voice messages to and from Gtalk, ICQ, AIM, etc.

Coming to the entertainment part, the Corby Pro features a top of the line MP3 & video player as well as a universal ear-jack that facilitates any kind of earphone connectivity to the handset. There is also a 3.2 MP camera to keep memories alive for years to come.

Another great handset on similar lines is the Corby Mate, which is basically a toned down version of the Corby Pro, but is in no way a compromise in any manner whatsoever. Right from the word 'go', its performance scintillates to the very boundaries of excellence. The first thing one would notice is the presence of some of the keys of the QWERTY keypad at the side of the handset permanently, with the slider providing the rest of the keypad, which is better in some ways than the Corby Pro as it gives a faster navigation platform.

Summing it up, both these handsets, alongside a wide range of many other multimedia phones from Samsung, are here to stay, since they offer quality with affordability, much to the delight of Indian users.
